Glassy Mountain Homeowners

(A Social & Support Organization)

Active & Athletic Groups

Our community members are an active and athletic group.  While some groups have regular, organized activities, others are more informal and operate more like a “shared interest” group.  Please check the group details to understand more about how they operate.   Additionally, some of these groups may require a specific type of club membership to participate.

If you would like to be informed about activities, even if you are not a regular participant, then please “opt in” to the group in your member profile.

Boating, Fishing, and Lake Jocasse Tours

Located at the northern tip of pristine Lake Keowee, both the Vineyards and Falls North communities enjoy a range of water and lake activities from boating, to fishing, to swimming. Those Communities are also conveniently located next to Lake Jocassee, another lake that is not to be missed.

Please check out the links below which will provide current information regarding Lake Jocassee Lake Tours, Lake Keowee boating and fishing regulations, news, and permits:

Lake Jocassee Tours:
At least once in your life, you have to do a Lake Jocassee Tour.  Many of our members have used Jocassee Lake Tours, which is known for its individual and group tours, sunset tours, full moon rising tours, and guided kayak tours.

There are several docks located within our shores as a convenience to members of the Cliffs when they want to boat to different club locations and amenities.   There are docks at the Lakehouse, on the Falls North shoreline, and near the Vineyards Club house.  Even if you don't own a boat, members can rent a boat for a half day or a full day at the Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards Marina.   The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards Marina offers a boat ramp, gas, ship store, and wet slips.

Cycling

This area is renowned for cycling.  Cycling groups are frequently seen on Hwy 11 and the side roads, like Oak Grove Road.  There are several biking trails in the area, such as:

THE SWAMP RABBIT TRAIL, is a 22 mile multi-use trail that links Travelers Rest and Greenville, including the Reedy River.  To learn more click on the link:  Swamp Rabbit Trail

Additionally, the Cliffs offers many cycling opportunities to its members.  Whether members are new to cycling or have been doing it for years, they’ll find groups, programs and classes for improving and enjoying the ride. Both road cycling and mountain biking alike are fostered at The Cliffs. Many popular cycling routes start close to our community gates, and riders will find friendly stops along trails and roads for a quick bite to eat or a tune-up at one of the many local bike shops.  Club members CLICK HERE for more cycling information

There is not currently an organized cycling group within the Cliffs at Glassy community.  But you can use the Member Directory to find community members who are interested in cycling by checking the box in your Groups list at the bottom of your Profile.

Motorcycle Group

The Glassy Motorcycle Group is a fun group of neighbors (both men and women) who love to ride.  See the membership list attached.  We do have some riders from Valley, Mountain Park and Tryon who join us from time to time, as well.

We typically ride on Sundays and tend to ride the "twisties" in and through the mountains of SC and NC. Normally we find a non-fast food place to have a leisurely lunch during the rides. The Blue Ridge Parkway always makes a nice ride, particularly during the spring and fall. Occasionally we ride into Greer, Taylors, or Greenville to have dinner as a group, on a pleasant evening. Most outings range from ~ four bikes to as many as ten. The number of people varies, depending on the number of wives who come along.

Additionally, the group attempts to participate quarterly in the Dave Schaub/RT Ford "chain gang" for trash pickup along Hwy 11 .

If you'd like to be added to the email list, please contact Buzz Buvinghausen at 895-9227 or email buzzbuv@yahoo.com
