From the Southeast Discovery website…
The Cliffs at Glassy is a premier 3500-acre mountain community, one of The Cliffs' seven communities, and located in Greenville County, SC. Established in 1991, Glassy is a vibrant and well-established community in the upstate and is the only gated, master-planned mountain community in the state of South Carolina. Glassy boasts of cooler elevations of as high as 3,200 feet and year-round, breath-taking panoramic 75-mile views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and valleys. Surrounded by over 12,000 acres of protected wilderness, wildlife enthusiasts and residents alike are ensured that these captivating views and landscapes will be there for generations to come.
Location and uniqueness are two attributes that make The Cliffs at Glassy a revered and special place to live. Situated in an area known for its beautiful mountain topography and plethora of outdoor activities to enjoy, Glassy rests near Asheville, North Carolina to its north, and the economically vibrant, pedestrian friendly and ever-evolving Greenville, South Carolina to its south. Glassy residents enjoy a relaxed mountain lifestyle at its finest, yet it is within easy reach of some of the best the Western Carolinas' has to offer.
Situated on 3,500 acres along the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway (SC Rt. 11), Glassy is as picturesque a mountain setting as one could desire with panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains for 75 miles. In fact, all homes and home sites feature stellar views for one's choosing - mountain, forest, the award-winning golf course or any number of beautiful natural settings for which the Blue Ridge Mountains are famous. The protected setting, thanks to the adjacent 12,000-acre Carolina Preserve and the Certified Audubon sanctuary designation at Glassy, ensures that a thriving natural ecosystem of indigenous wild life and native plants will be enjoyed now and for posterity.
Glassy's desirable location is also central to many of the other favored urban, cultural and outdoor recreational destinations of South Carolina and Western North Carolina. In addition to The Carolina Preserve, the 2,100+ acre Chestnut Ridge Heritage Preserve/Wildlife Management Area for nature and hiking enthusiasts, is a scant 10-minute car ride from the Glassy community. The world-class Tryon International Equestrian Center is just 40 minutes northward. In fact, most of the many hiking, skiing, cycling, rafting, fishing and other outdoor recreation areas of the Carolinas are within a few minutes, to an hour or so of The Cliffs at Glassy, and driving to any of them will be a pleasant journey using back roads or the Interstates of 26 and 85, both of which are about 15 minutes from Glassy.
The energetic and culture-rich city of Greenville and the Greenville/Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) are just 30 minutes south, while Asheville, North Carolina is only about an hour north of the Glassy community. Need a big city? Charlotte, North Carolina is ninety minutes east and Atlanta, Georgia is three hours southwest. Charleston, South Carolina and the coast are only three and half hours southeast.
Also within minutes from The Cliffs at Glassy, are wonderful mountain "Norman Rockwell" towns such as Landrum, a pedestrian oriented downtown environment chocked full of antique shops, art galleries, cafes & restaurants, farmers market, and more. Historic and award-winning Hendersonville, NC features 16 delightful blocks in its old town center offering a mix of shops, galleries, museums, dining options and vibrant entertainment venues. Sierra Nevada along with Henderson County's other breweries and wineries provide tours and tasting rooms to sample mountain grown selections. The 200-year-old town of Flat Rock, NC is also within minutes. The entire district of Flat Rock is included in the National Registry of Historic Places and it is well-known for the acclaimed Flat Rock Playhouse which is home to "Music on the Rock" concert series as well as a variety of stage productions throughout the year. The Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site, which now houses his collection of 10,000 books, is also in Flat Rock and is open for tours and nearby hikes.
But location is not the only standout for this premiere South Carolina golf community. It is also complemented by a very well-maintained infrastructure of completed amenities, as well as a thriving interest, and the residents' compassion for their community and each other.
As the flagship Cliff’s community, the golf course was envisioned to be awesome and inspire a move to the South Carolina mountains. And they succeeded. Blessed with the beauty of its surroundings, Glassy features a visually stunning championship course at a 3,200-foot elevation, designed by Tom Jackson as its amenity cornerstone. The course has been rated by Golf Digest as the fourth most scenic in the country, behind only Pebble Beach, Augusta National and Cypress Point. Often the subject of golf marketing photography over the years, its stunning par 3 signature hole was featured on the cover of Golfweek's Ultimate Guide to Golf as recently as 2016. The award-winning course is playable year-round, thanks to a temperate climate, blessed with mild winters and cool summers. The climate is often 10 degrees cooler at Glassy in the summer than surrounding communities, making it a refreshing haven during the Carolina summertime.
In addition to the golf, the Wellness Center is a popular spot for Glassy residents. Staffed by certified health professionals and featuring all up to date fitness equipment, the center features an electronic keypad allowing convenient 24/7 access. The Wellness Center features ample space for floor exercises. Daily fitness classes such as strength training, golf conditioning, balance, yoga, Pilates, and water aerobics are available for residents - and the upper level of the center is home to the spin studio featuring Greg Lemond bikes. Families and swimmers can also enjoy the Olympic-sized outdoor swimming, pickle ball courts, and new tennis courts that are lit for night play.
When it's time to play, there is no lack of social activities and clubs, as there is something for everyone at Glassy. Gardening, bridge, hiking, bicycling, book club, card games, pickle ball, Mahjong and Choral Clubs are just some of the many options. Or, start a club if you don't see one you like! Add to that, weekly gatherings at the outdoor Mountain Top Pavilion and the Friday night Mixer at the Club with live music - and you will definitely sleep well at day's end.
Children aren't left out of festivities and have some all their own, such as the annual Kids' Camp and the Children's Village - a mini neighborhood town created for kids and grand kids who visit to enjoy.
When the trail calls, residents can easily find a resident companion who's up for a brisk walk or leisurely hike. The half-mile Sunset Trail or the more challenging 1.39-mile Nature Trail with breathtaking views are nearby as is the one-mile easy Fitness Trail for canines and their companions. Members can also enjoy the trails and activities at the six other Cliffs locations as part of their membership too!
As part of the Cliffs communities, which are known for their stellar location and first-class amenities and activities, Glassy was the flagship community built to embody the developer's objective which was to "optimize the quality and enjoyment of life". The well-planned, luxury community of the Cliffs Seven, Glassy (a.k.a. Cliffs at Glassy), continues to maintain that vision today. But, moreover, and quite notably, 20 years since its foundation, it is the residents themselves that have truly created this quality of life, this sense of place that envelopes the community. The "Glassy way of living", as they call it, is the pervasive culture of camaraderie and warmth that adds heart to the developer's vision.
Residents at Glassy do, indeed, enjoy an unsurpassed mountain lifestyle, but also a unique and sincere unity of spirit from which flows genuine caring for one another and the employees. Case in point is "Helping Hands" a resident group that assists 'neighbors in need' during life crisises. But it doesn't stop at the gate. Residents rally to support and benefit neighboring organizations and schools outside the community as well. There are many volunteer opportunities in the local area, including the Fire Department, pet shelters, classrooms, art centers, and cultural organizations to which Glassy residents give freely of their time. Set at the edge of the mountain looking out at 75-mile views of the valley around it, the glass-enclosed Glassy Chapel provides a perfect setting for the spiritual and the celebratory. Residents may enjoy weekly, non-denominational services or also revel in the special concerts by talented local performers, from string and woodwind groups to vocal soloists and choirs and jazz trios. The Glassy Chapel is also an idyllic spot for intimate wedding ceremonies and has been frequently featured in wedding magazines.
Many residents of Glassy Mountain, a Cliffs Community enjoy working from their home offices - and high-speed Internet service is available within the community. And, like many gated communities, civil affairs of the community are governed by a resident Community Association.
